Beauty Salon Jobs

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Wow! Is this timely? I just wrote in one of my previous posts about my being a trying hard makeup artist. And look what I found...hair salon jobs. Great! I can now apply, oh just kidding. I only I live in America, I would do that. I'd love to put to practice my love to do people's faces. I think I can handle the job, or should I still view makeup tutorials over at youtube. Yeah that's where I get ideas on how to do people's faces. I didn't study to become a pro, but I really want to. There are still a lot to learn I know.

Hopefully there will still be jobs available in case I want to go pro. But for those ones who want to find a job related to the beauty industry, beautyjobs.com is the place for you. Who knows this will be the start of a new career for you.

I Knit!

I started this knitting project 2nd week of December I think. I'm proud to say that I finished it in just 2 days. I can actually do it in one sitting, but knowing me, I'm such a multi-tasker. Anyways, my daughter was able to wear it already when we went to Tagaytay. It was a bit colder there compared to Manila, so she found this a great opportunity to wear it. I don't know if it helped her get warm, or is it just because of fashion. Whatever it is, I know my daughter is happy that I made her a beanie.

The Makeup Artist in Me

I was requested by my MIL to do the makeup of the bride who is her neighbor. The bride actually worked for us in our 1-hr photo developing some years back. That's the reason why I was excited and very willing...just returning the favor if I may say. I actually didn't have second thoughts when my MIL informed me, in fact I was very excited to do her makeup. This is not the first time my MIL requested me to do someone's makeup. My first "client" was a contestant in a singing contest, and she won first place. Well not because I made her prettier, but because she had a beautiful voice, LOL. I think I am made to do hair and makeup for free. Yep I didn't charge them ^_^. Anyways, can this be the start of a new career? The hubs says NO WAY. With this I will continue to do it for free then! I was not only the makeup artist for that day, I was the unofficial photographer too.

Beautifully Crafted Jewelry

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

I want you guys to check out these designer costume jewelry I found online. Goodness it's awesome and very affordable! I found this set of multi stone earrings and pendant which was really beautiful and it's on sale now, at a jaw dropping price. I'm attaching a photo at the end of the post. Now tell me, isn't it beautiful? I'd love to wear them and I'm sure it's gonna be a head turner. Yeah I am very sure of that.

There are a lot of beautiful pieces you can find if you browse their website. I'm sure you will agree with me on that. These are beautifully crafted. You will see that the craftsmanship is not sacrificed at all even if the prices are really very affordable. They wouldn't be in the business this long if they don't have satisfied returning customers. This website is just awesome. Check it out.

Interesting Home Businesses

Monday, December 29, 2008

I am a stay at home Mom right now and I am loving every minute of it. I have time to take care of my growing kids. At first I was not used to the idea since I had been working for some 8 years already. I admit I missed it a lot, but after some time I was very thankful to be staying home. A lot of my friends have convinced me to have a home business since they think that the kids are already grown up. Grown up in the sense that they "need" me less. Actually I have been thinking about having my own home business lately, this way I can help the hubs augment the family income and at the same time I can be there for the family. Good idea, right?

Christmas Eve

We had a very simple Christmas Eve Noche Buena at home. Our noche buena consisted of Chinese Ham, 3 kinds of cheeses, baked macaroni, grapes, french cookies with strawberry jam, a bottle of red wine and some spritzer for the kids. When the kids came down, they were like, is that what we are having only? You see, they were so used seeing plenty of food on the table, well that was like last year and a few years before that. Yeah, I prepared a lot, more than what we can finish. But this time, I only prepared a few since I was really very very tired. I baked 16 loaves of banana bread to be given away. I didn't have enough energy to cook some more for the night's noche buena. I wanted to give my relatives some freshly baked banana bread. I will just make up this coming New Year's Eve. My Mom and the rest of the gang will be spending it with us. This will be a lot of fun, fun in the kitchen too!

Queen of the Kitchen

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

I'm not really into baking and stuff, but lately I want to learn how to bake. I've done cookies, but that's about it. Last night, I tried my hand at making banana pineapple bread, a recipe from my Mom. I enjoyed doing it especially that it turned out ok. Yeah it's my first time to make it and I can say that I was pretty successful. The hubs had it for breakfast, and the verdict? He said it was yummy. Now I am inspired to try my hand at baking other cakes or perhaps some cupcakes which is the favorite of my daughter. But the thing is, I don't have the necessary pans and all. I started looking for one and I found this circulon steel elite really impressive. It's a non-stick bakeware. Now I want to own all the bakeware, and the roaster included since I roast chicken all the time. Oh now I'm getting excited, I love the smell of baked goodies. The kids would be happy I know, and this time it would be wonderful to hear them say, "My Mom bakes well." It would be nice to hear that in addition to the "My Mom cooks good food." Or to borrow my son's dialogue, "I am not fat, I am just well fed."

While browsing their website, I also found these art and cook utensils. Goodness, I want to have it all too. They have a wide range of unique designs and it's really beautiful. It's like state-of-the-art utensils. Who says art and cooking do not go together. I will be inspired to cook more if I have these beautiful yet functional kitchen utensils

Are You Ready to Celebrate?

Who's reading for the Christmas Eve celebration? I am not yet that ready since I need to prepare a lot more stuff for our "noche buena". I didn't prepare much this time, I think we're just having ham, 3 kinds of cheeses, some red wine, baked chicken wings and baked macaroni and grapes. That is not much, considering we had a lot last year. Well I learned my lesson, we don't get to finish everything that we prepared. I haven't finished baking banana pineapple bread to be given away. I've done 6 so far, and need to do 10 more. I will be making it in a little while and hopefully be able to finish it before tomorrow. Good I'm done with shopping, I was out yesterday and the mall was just full. You can barely move. It's been this way all these years, and seems like everyone didn't learn their lesson, me included...bleh.

Travel Insurance

Sunday, December 21, 2008

I never really thought of getting a travel insurance whenever we go out of the country. Maybe I was just not familiar with the benefits I'll get whenever I have one. But now that I know, I must make it a point to get one whenever we travel. It can compensate with whatever hassles I might have when traveling. We are not really sure what's going to happen, but it would be wonderful to think that whatever happens, travel insurance can take care of it.

The Birthday Boy

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

We had two celebrations for my son's 13th birthday. Initially he wanted to celebrate it at Friday's, but since the olds do not want it there, we opted for a chinese restaurant instead. This was done a day prior to his birthday. We feasted on all his favorite dishes.

We surprised him with a Friday's treat right on his birthday. Of course wish granted for our little big boy. Again, he had all he wanted, including some time at Timezone.

I'm really proud of my son. He's grown up to be a fine young man, a son any mother can wish for. He has his moods, but generally he's a very sweet boy. He says his piece, but he does not sound rude at all. He has his moments though, like any kid would have, but he is not difficult. We love you son!

A Comprehensive List of Diet Pills

With a lot of diet pills coming out in the market today, what do you think is the best? Honestly I am at a lost, well maybe you know the reason why ^_^. But seriously...I found a list of the best diet pills in the net. It's not just any list, but the reviews are based on the studies conducted by different international organizations and research institutes. I don't know but I feel safer or should I say I'm more confident about products being reviewed by research institutes.

Anything Baseball

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Who among you love baseball? I guess everyone does. It's an exciting game, and it's fun to watch too if you are not playing. It would be a wonderful activity for the kids too. As much as possible, we want our kids to indulge in sports. It is a very good exercise, and by playing one can develop sportsmanship. It's a great way to interact with others too. I'd love to have my kids attend a baseball clinic or something. But if there's none, they can always learn by themselves, well at least the basics. There are a lot of baseball equipment for sale, including Baseball Gloves. When I checked on their products a while back, I really got interested with the pitching machine. It's cool, you can practice anytime, and you can really develop your batting skills. I think this is fun. But of course it would be nice if you get proper training too.

There's actually a lot more you can find when you visit kidsportsinc.com. There are a lot of potential gift items. Sometimes we run out of ideas of what to give on Christmas. I think this would be a wonderful gift one can ever receive. You know how kids are, they get pretty excited and want to use it right away. This is a nice way to introduce our kids and godchildren to sports. What do you think?

Bibingka (Rice Cake)

Monday, December 08, 2008

Yay! The hubs drove all the way to Tomas Morato (about 20 minutes away from our house without traffic) just to have my bibingka (rice cake) fix at 9 in the evening. He seldom drives nowadays, well except when he goes biking, he does not have a choice since our driver brings the kids to school. Good thing he didn't get lazy that night, otherwise I would have driven myself which would be a big mistake since I just recuperated from flu. Actually I still had terrible cough and colds that night but minus the fever, so I declared myself well just to have that bibingka fix, haha. It tasted really good, different from all the rice cakes that I've tasted. If you want to have the original Ferino's bibingka, you should look for that signage, unless you want to buy from their franchise.

Reimbursement Services

How do you manage reimbursing your mobile employees their gas allowance? Are you having problems with it? Are you sure that what they are reimbursing is actually what they used your business? I think this is the most common problem most employers encounter nowadays. There are some employees who are not just being honest. But did you know you can avoid this kind of problem? I found out in the internet that this Car Allowance can actually be customizable. A certain program can calculate a fair and accurate reimbursement rate. This would benefit both the employer and the employee. On the employer side, it would mean a lot of savings if they don't administer and and maintain a fleet of vehicles. It would turn out more cheaper if they do reimbursements via another company. It will also reduce risk and liability exposure. We all know that whether or not the car was used for business, if something happens to that car, it would be the liability of the employer. On the employee side, it's going to be tax-free. Yes it's true and the program is designed in accordance to IRS. With this, the employee gets to go home with more pay.

I'm No SuperWoman

I'm down with a flu. Being down with a flu doesn't mean that I can't go online, staying in bed is boring after all. I know I am stubborn, and I am to take the much needed rest. Don't worry, even if I went online the whole of yesterday, I took naps in between. Now I feel a little better, except that I seem to bark like a dog every now and then. Darn why did I forget to put Vicks on my sole of my feet? I read somewhere that it helps especially with coughing. Oh I'm gonna try it tonight.

Home Theater Needs

Thursday, December 04, 2008

I remember scouting for home theater seating with my daughter some two years ago. We thought that we could finally put up our home theater. We were excited to go the the malls to take a look at the things we needed to put in the theater room. Then the big announcement came. Nope we can't put up our theater room now because we don't have enough budget for here. Our hearts sank, but it's ok. I understand that we need to prioritize certain things.

Remember Wayfarer?

I remember back in high school when Wayfarer sunglasses were so in. It was like everyone wants to own one. Everywhere you go, you see people wearing it. I had a pair too and I remember it was a black one. I wonder where it is now, so I don't have to purchase again since the Wayfarer sunglasses is back. If I can't find it, then maybe I'll just have to buy a new one, anyway I really need a pair of sunglasses now.

The Big Day for the In-laws

The big day for my in-laws has finally come last Saturday. After 44 years of being together, they were finally wedded in Church. It was a beautiful ceremony, everything was just beautiful and it was a dream come true for my MIL. My SIL and I helped with the preparations. I was assigned to do some things, and the rest she took care of. Part of the program was a surprise dance number from me and my kids. It wasn't really a surprise seeing us dance with my daughter, but for my son everyone was surprised even the couple. It was my son's first time to dance in public. He would dance in the confines of his room with only us watching him. He would watch videos at YouTube and would copy their dance steps. I'm really so proud of my son for being able to dance that well.

I have more photos over at my other BLOG and at my Flickr account.

A Great Christmas Present

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

Uh oh, Christmas is just a few weeks away and I haven't done any shopping yet. Poor me! A lot of things (important) came up lately and I just had to help some of my relatives get it over and done with. Finally it's done and I can now take care of my shopping list. Goodness, my kids haven't handed me their list yet, I'm sure there will be lots. Every year it seems like the list is growing, must be added friends huh. Anyway, I have a lot of ideas to give as presents to my godchildren for Christmas and this includes probably NFL Jerseys. I'm sure my nephew will be glad to have it for Christmas. The people here are not big fans of this I think so I may have to scratch the idea. Or maybe I can start introducing them to football or something. What do you think? It would make great presents and the kids would look good in it. I wonder if my son would be happy to get one. He's not actually a fan of football, he's more of a basketball fan, but who knows? I actually find it nice seeing kids wear sports uniforms, football in particular. I love the style, I can wear one too you know. I'm not a hip and cool Mom for nothing, haha.

The Search for a Luggage

I don't know which luggage to choose! I am actually in search of a nice luggage so that I don't need to borrow when all four of us travel. My two kids do not have their own luggage and it's about time I buy them. Normally when we travel, I put in all the stuff for the three of us in one luggage, and I do all the packing. Now I need to teach them how to pack for themselves. They can no longer give me the common excuse "Mom, can you do it for me since we are using your luggage" kind of thing. Having their own luggage will teach them the responsibility of having to pack. And if I may say, I am already tired of having to pack and take care of their belongings.

My Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles

It turned out more cheaper if I buy from Ebay US than here. Here it sells almost P6000 while I only got it at Ebay for like P3,100 shipping included. Big difference right? Oh I just love my new needles. I actually like it better than my existing straight needles. The interchangeable ones are less stressful to the wrist probably because it's so much lighter. I love the cable part too coz I can just put it in my bag without the needles sticking out of my bag. Now if you excuse me, I have a scarf to finish (to match the beanie).

I'm so happy that we got this kind of Bathroom Furniture. Well not exactly the same, but I can say that it's kinda similar. Well I made sure that our bathrooms will have simple yet very elegant furniture. Good thing I didn't have to argue with the hubs, since he wanted something like that too. Actually that was one of the requests I asked him when we started building our second house. I was browsing the internet a lot, so that gave me the idea. I told myself, I just have to have this kind of look. And now that we have it, I am more than satisfied. It does not necessarily have to be expensive to get that kind of bathroom look. It's actually cheaper than buying pre-arranged flowers especially during this time. I spent about P600 for all the flowers and leaves I needed, including the pots and floral foam. With My MuscleMen

The hubs was the official photographer of the just concluded Philippine Fashion Week. I was with him all the time and tried my hand at taking photographs of models doing the catwalk. But this time the hubs insisted that I shoot. Why not give it a try? If I don't like it and would enjoy watching rather than take pictures, I would be camera less the next day. But surprisingly I enjoyed both. I was able to shoot all week except for the last night. I know it sucks, but I had more important things to attend to.

Oh the picture that you see above? That's me with the intimidating looking "musclemen" aka bouncers of the show. I don't know but I found it a great photo OP. Oh well, to each his own...I'm happy and had fun posing with the boys.

Yeah it was her first time to see that thing, or maybe she saw it before already but was too young to take notice. I asked her all about it since I have not seen nor held one before. Based on her story, it made me hope that one day our country can have one of those. I normally get lost when I travel (I don't go out that often you know). It would be a great help if we have it.

Posh yet Affordable Car Seats

Thursday, October 16, 2008

I was browsing a mommy blog (I forgot the url of the blog, since I am fond of bloghopping) a few weeks ago, and I got curious over one of her wish lists. She was talking so much about this car seat that she wants to have, only to find out that it was one of the Britax car seats. Curiosity got into me again, so I went to their website to check. Hhmm, now I know the reason why she wants to have one. I went over the specifications of this car seat that caught my attention and I was impressed. Honestly, with the two kids I have, I never used a car seat. First it was not a law here in our country to use car seats when travelling with babies in the car. I know I placed my babies at risk, I should have known better. And not only that, babies are more comfortable lying in a car seat. And it's not a joke carrying the baby in your arms the whole duration of the trip. Good thing nothing happened to my babies during those times, and I thank God for it. Anyway, going back to the car seat, I saw in their website that it is approved for aircraft use. Again this is new to me. I've been travelling at least once a year and there was never a time I saw a Mommy carrying a car seat. This is actually a wonderful idea, it will give both the Mom and the baby the rest they need while travelling.

I might overdo it, and I don't want to have a reason to pig out since I have been more consistent in my workout lately.

Meet Dr. Lark

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Have you heard about Dr. Lark? A lot of people are raving about her. She has written about 13 best selling books on women's health. She is widely known on the internet, and has appeared in several television shows. She was even featured in magazines and newspapers. I came across her website a little while back and what a great mission she has. Her mission is to provide women with safe and effective therapies to enhance health and well-being.

While browsing her website, I got interested in her all natural line of cosmetics. The cosmetics are blended for women my age group. I mean 40 and over. When applied, it takes away a number of years, making you look years younger. I love that. I'm one person who can't do without cosmetics. I just love putting on makeup. I guess I will have to try this cosmetic line. It's simply made for me.

My Version of Pumpkin Soup

I wish I knew how to make pumpkin soup when the kids were still small. Wearing eyeglasses could have been avoided. I started doing it only a few months ago and they love it. Every now and then they request me to make this soup for them. I don't use pumpkin though but squash. If you ask me the difference between the two, I'm sorry but I don't know. What I know is that they are different varieties of a winter squash, I think ^_^ .

Here's how I did it. I boiled the squash with garlic and onions. You are supposed to use chicken broth, but if you don't have one, Knorr Chicken Cubes will do. I blended it to become puree. Put back in the pan, if you need more stock, you can use the water where you boiled the squash from. Add cream, basil, salt, pepper and parmesan cheese. That's it!

Stainless Steel Sinks

Friday, October 10, 2008

When we built this house we are staying in right now, I really made sure that all my specifications will all be followed when it comes to the kitchen...after all who do you think reigns there? I did close supervision, from construction to finishing. I always had the final say. Good thing the architect and the workers knew what I wanted right away, so I wasn't really that stressed. But there's one thing though, had I known about these kitchen sinks, I would have gotten one of these. I actually have double sink, a stainless one too, but I want the undermount one. That's not what I have right now. Much as I want it, I don't think I can. It will be a waste of money, since nothing is wrong with my countertop just yet. We don't need any renovation too, since this house is just 2 years old. I guess I will just have to settle with what we have. But for those ones who are in the process of building their dream houses, go take a look at the sleek and gorgeous stainless steel sinks. Take a look at the different shapes, I'm sure it will go with the design of your kitchen. Oh did I mention that stainless steel sinks are very affordable?

Derma...Here I Come!

Goodness! I'm past the age when one can have so many zits, but look I still get them. I have two huge (when I say huge, it's really huge) pimples right now and it looks ugly. I thought it won't swell since I put some medicine, but it has gotten bigger. This needs a trip to the dermatologist and have it injected. I normally do that when it starts to swell. I think it's hormonal...like once a month a few days before my period. I hate it, but what can I do? Well, have it injected. I wish I have time to go tomorrow, or I should find time to go to the doctor. Yeah, in Greenhills...then shopping here I come! Nah, just kidding. Need to save moolah for a project.

Don't Miss Vegas

Have you been to Vegas? I was fortunate to be brought there when we went to the States in 2005. I didn't get to see a lot coz we stayed for 2 nights only. But still I enjoyed. I don't think I'll ever get tired going back again and again, and if ever we will have a scheduled trip to the US again, I will make sure Vegas would be in the itinerary. There's no problem looking for hotels las vegas, because I have bookmarked the website that offers great deals. You wouldn't believe it because you are expecting to see more...this is Vegas we are talking about, but no, great and irresistible deals indeed.

Have you seen the latest Oscar de la Renta collection? Boy oh boy is it pretty. I really love this guy, and he's got a great collection. I just wish one day I will be able to wear even just one of his collections. If you are interested to see what's the latest in his collection and some other designers too, why don't you take a look at marissacollections.com. They do international shipping. You'd love what you see in there, I promise.

Finally

After more than 4 years, finally the ortho took off her braces. Am I happy with the result? Of course I am. She can now qualify for a toothpaste ad ^_^. She really looks pretty in her "perfect" set of teeth. To celebrate, her Dad took us out. Haha, since when did it require a celebration? To us it's yes, especially to her Dad. He is pretty proud of his daughter. I am too.

Note: she does not own the dog, it was just borrowed from one pet owner strolling in Serendra. You see a lot of them there. Both the owner and the dog are friendly.

Credit Card Choices

Wednesday, October 01, 2008

Wow! This is nice, actually I love the idea of new credit card blog. Whoever put this up, kudos to you. They gave a rundown based on credit card satisfaction study. With too much banks offering credit cards, it's hard to decide which one to get. But with a study like this, it becomes easier. It will give you an idea on what these credit card has to offer. What I love about it is I don't need to go to each credit card's websites individually. It's all listed in one website, which is awesome!

On Weight Loss

I've been told time and again to read reviews of weight loss pills before trying to decide on which one to use. Not that I need to use one at the moment, but my friends hear me talk about it all the time. Yeah I'm being conscious lately, well who wants to put on weight, right? Honestly, as much as possible I don't want to resort to taking those pills but who knows once I get frustrated, I'll end up taking one. At least I know of a website that does reviews of all these popular brands. I will have an idea on what is effective and what is a just the product of media hype.

Search is Over

Photobucket

The hubs took us to dinner at Abe in Serendra. Food was good but I didn't get to enjoy it. I had my braces adjusted (wire changed for the 4th stage, new rubber/elastics) today. It hurts pretty bad, so I'm in a diet now, darn it! And since we were already in the area, I took the opportunity to drop by Aldo. I saw in one magazine the shoes similar to that one (Blahnik) I posted, and it's by Aldo. Too bad they don't have it in my size. I ended up buying at Charles and Keith instead. I bought one for Ish too, the wedding requires silver shoes.

I Love Wearing Sunglasses

Saturday, September 27, 2008

Are Wayfarer sunglasses vintage already? I think so. I remember owning one back in the 80s, and it became a favorite. I think it has not lost its touch for I see a lot wearing them. It's classic, and I think it fits everyone. Hmmm, now it makes me think...I like to buy one again. And this time I'm thinking of getting the black one. The one I owned back in the 80s is a brown one, oh more like the tortoise. If only I was responsible enough to take care of my things back then, I wouldn't be buying now. Oh never mind, no use crying over spilled milk, it's affordable anyway.

My Make Up Case

I finally have it...thanks to the hubs. I've been dreaming of having that since I started to learn doing my face. I mean the DIY makeup thingy. Yeah I don't go to salons anymore to have my face done whenever we go to parties or special occasions. I do my own makeup and if I have time I do my own hair too. My daughter does not want salon service too, coz she says they make her ugly. Honestly, I think so too, she transforms into somebody different when she's having it done there. It's only me who can do her eyes. And whenever I paint her face, it looks very natural, that's why she loves it. It enhances her features more. I think I was a makeup artist in my past life. How I wish I can be one, but then...oh well long story.

Novelty Tees

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Do you like wearing novelty t-shirts? I do! When I go shop for tees, I always look for them. To me it's like a walking statement when worn. I have this habit of reading what's written on every shirt that I see. I sometimes associate it with the person wearing it. Sometimes it fits, sometimes not. It's a very good past time for me, it gives a good laugh.

Appetizer Recipes

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

I was jumping with joy when I found this website with appetizers recipes. Honestly I want to learn. I only get to taste appetizers whenever we dine at hotels. We don't do it at home, we have soup, salad, but never the appetizers they serve in hotels. I think I want to try and make one for the weekend. Frittatas sound yummy and it's actually easy to prepare. I just hope the kids will like it, like I told you, they are not used to having appetizers at home.

My Own Version

It's my first time to actually prepare it. As usual I first tasted this at a japanese restaurant I frequent. I was like, mayo spaghetti? How does it taste? Out of curiosity, I tried it, and boy was it yummy! I actually do not know how to make it step by step nor the ingredients. I made a wild guess though when I made my own version. My ingredients included japanese mayo, nestle cream, olive oil, bacon, asparagus and garlic. That is the most I can come up with. Of course they won't be telling their trade secret, so it's up to me to discover. So far, so good, coz my family really loved it. And that's what matters most.
